Azkals, Andi, Duterte top PH searches last week: Yahoo!

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Azkals, actress Andi Eigenmann and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte were top of mind for most Internet-using Filipinos last week.

The Azkals made history by becoming the first Philippine team to advance to the second round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, making them the country's most searched personalities from June 27 to July 3, data from Yahoo! Philippines showed.

The Philippine team defeated Sri Lanka, 4-0 (5-1 on aggregate), much to the delight of thousands of football fans who endured the rain just to witness the match at the Rizal Memorial Stadium last July 3.

They will take on Kuwait in the second round of the qualifiers on July 23.

Eigenmann, on the other hand, dominated the search logs last week after news came out that she is expecting her first child. Her mother, veteran actress Jaclyn Jose, refused to name the father of Eigenmann's baby but said that he is a former boyfriend.

The 21-year-old actress, who rose to fame by playing the lead star in the defunct ABS-CBN television series "Agua Bendita," used to go out with Albie Casiño of "Mara Clara." She is also romantically linked to Jake Ejercito, son of former President Joseph Estrada and actress Laarni Enriquez.

Mark Gil, Eigenmann's father, has apologized to Ejercito. He said he is his daughter's "knight in shining armor."

Gil did not give a direct statement about Casiño, but took a swipe at the still unidentified father of Eigenmann's baby. "Masakit sa kahit anong babae na ginulpi at binuntis at tinalikuran, tapos papalabasin pa na si Andi ang maraming boyfriend. At may DNA test pa na hinihingi. Such a hypocrite and pathetic animal," he said.

Meanwhile, netizens reacted strongly to last week's punching incident involving Duterte and court sheriff Abe Andres. The mayor repeatedly punched Andres in the face after he failed to accommodate her request to halt the demolition of illegal settlers' houses in Agdao district.

Duterte is currently on leave as Davao City's mayor until July 11. Andres, meanwhile, extended his apologies to Duterte after declaring that he will no longer press charges against her.

Other top Yahoo! searches last week include tap dance duo Happy Feet who placed second in the grand finals of ABS-CBN's "Pilipinas Got Talent 2;" actress Rachel Weisz who recently got married to "James Bond" star Daniel Craig; and Diamond Star Maricel Soriano who has been accused of beating her household workers.
