YANGON - Filipino-Europeans have arrived in Myanmar for the Philippine Azkals' game against host Myanmar on Monday afternoon.
Star goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, Rob Gear, and Fil-German Patrick Hinrichsen arrived Sunday evening for the AFC Challenge Cup group stage match at 5 p.m. today.
The Azkals are confident they will do better than their performance against Mongolia since Myanmar and the Philippines both enjoy tropical climate.
Playing under freezing weather in Ulan Bator, the Azkals lost 2-1 to Mongolia last week.
The weather forecast in the capital of Yangon is mainly sunny with temperature at 35 degrees Celsius.
The Azkals were able to practice once at the 40,000-seater stadium.
"Ok naman ang team dito, nakakakain sila ng mabuti, maganda ang kanilang team spirit," ABS-CBN's Dyan Castillejo reported from Myanmar.
Football is popular in Myanmar, and the stadium is expected to get filled.
The Azkals will play three games in Myanmar.
On Wednesday, they will face Bangladesh, while on Friday, they will be up against Palestine.
In order to qualify for the AFC Challenge Cup next year, the Philippines has to win at least 2 games. -Report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
